Fatal Bronx sidewalk attack death of Jose Reyes – Obituary

Jose Reyes, a 45-year-old man from New York City, has died following a brutal sidewalk assault in the Bronx that occurred earlier this month. The attack, which left him unconscious with severe head injuries, happened on May 11 in front of 760 East Tremont Avenue.

Police from the 48th Precinct responded to a 911 call around 1:16 p.m. and found Reyes unresponsive on the pavement. He was quickly taken by emergency medical personnel to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he remained in critical condition for over two weeks. On Tuesday, May 28, hospital staff officially pronounced him dead at noon.

Following an autopsy, the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office classified Reyes’ death as a homicide. However, authorities have not revealed further details about how the assault was carried out, the motive, or whether a weapon was involved.

Investigators continue to gather evidence in the area, canvassing for surveillance footage and speaking with potential witnesses. No suspects have been identified, and no arrests have been made.

Jose Reyes’ death adds to the growing number of unresolved homicide cases in the Bronx. Law enforcement officials are asking anyone with information related to the incident to come forward as the investigation remains active.
