Authorities in Defiance, Ohio have confirmed the death of 57-year-old Kristin Bates, a woman reported missing from Boyne City, Michigan. Her body was located after a fisherman spotted it near an island close to Riverside Park.

The investigation began on Monday when police responded to a call about a dog left alone in a vehicle parked on the 900 block of South Clinton Street. Officers traced the car back to Bates, who had been reported as a missing and endangered person.

The next day, a body was found in the Maumee River area, and the Defiance County Coroner later confirmed the remains were those of Kristin Bates. The cause of her death is currently under investigation by the Lucas County Coroner’s Office.
