Matthew Pascoe dies in fatal Nerang hotel shooting

Fatal Nerang hotel shooting death of Matthew Pascoe – Obituary

Matthew Pascoe, aged 35, was found dead in a room at the Hinterland Hotel on Station Street in Nerang on the Gold Coast, Queensland. Pascoe’s body was discovered around 11:15 a.m. on Saturday by a hotel cleaner, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Seven years earlier, Pascoe had survived a near-fatal point-blank shotgun attack during an unrelated incident in a Nerang park. This violent episode followed a dispute with a former friend, Tyson James Scott Boulden, who was later imprisoned for unlawful wounding and firearm possession. Authorities have confirmed that Boulden was not involved in Pascoe’s death.

A post-mortem revealed Pascoe died from severe head and internal injuries, leading police to treat the case as a murder investigation. At the time, Pascoe was staying at the hotel due to a court order preventing him from consuming alcohol at home.

Matthew’s sister, Caitlyn, paid tribute to him online, describing him as a beloved brother and a bright presence in the lives of family and friends. She shared how deeply missed he was by nieces, nephews, and all who knew him.

The suspect, 34-year-old Matthew Walker from Nerang, was arrested on Wednesday night and charged with Pascoe’s murder. Walker appeared in Southport Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody. Investigators have urged anyone who was at the Hinterland Hotel between Friday evening, May 23, and Saturday morning, May 24, to come forward with information as inquiries continue.
