Fatal Modesto car crash death of Sue Crawford – Obituary
Sue Crawford, a 53-year-old woman from Modesto, lost her life early Wednesday morning in a head-on collision on Mitchell Road, south of Tenaya Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At approximately 5:45 a.m., first responders arrived at the crash site and found two SUVs—Crawford’s 2025 Ford and a 2007 Cadillac—heavily damaged from a frontal impact. Crawford was declared dead at the scene. Two passengers in her vehicle—a 34-year-old woman from Hughson and a 67-year-old man from Waterford—were severely injured and taken to Memorial Medical Center.
The driver of the Cadillac, identified as 64-year-old Noel Mendoza-Manlulu of Modesto, sustained minor injuries and was also transported to the hospital.
Initial findings suggest Crawford was driving north on Mitchell Road and drifted into the southbound lane near a curve at Tenaya Drive. Her vehicle collided head-on with the Cadillac. Both vehicles came to a stop while partially obstructing the road.
Authorities confirmed that everyone involved had been wearing seat belts. The exact cause of why Crawford veered into oncoming traffic remains under investigation.
