Fatal Baltimore shooting death of Taniya Gray – Obituary
Taniya Gray, a 23-year-old woman, lost her life on Mother’s Day after being shot multiple times while sitting inside a parked vehicle in Baltimore’s Southwest District, according to city police.
Authorities reported that officers were called to the 4100 block of Mountwood Road around 10:41 a.m. on May 11 after receiving reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they found Gray inside a car with several gunshot wounds. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
Baltimore police, in cooperation with the U.S. Marshals Service, arrested 22-year-old Tamal Johnson on May 22 in the 3000 block of Elizabeth Avenue. Johnson, identified as a repeat violent offender, now faces multiple charges, including first- and second-degree murder, conspiracy, and firearm-related offenses. He is being held without bail.
Investigators have linked Johnson to what they describe as a targeted shooting but have not disclosed a motive or clarified if there was any prior relationship between him and Gray. Details regarding additional suspects or the weapon involved have not been released.
The investigation remains open, and authorities are asking anyone with relevant information to assist in the ongoing case.
