Fatal Woodbridge police shooting death of Aamir Allen – Obituary

Aamir Allen, 35, of Carteret, was fatally shot by police during a confrontation early Thursday morning, May 29, in the Port Reading neighborhood of Woodbridge Township, New Jersey.

 

According to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, Allen was spotted around 1 a.m. outside a convenience store on Port Reading Avenue, holding a baseball bat. Prior to the incident, officers had responded to a call from a home on East Tappen Street, which Allen left before walking to the store.

 

Woodbridge Police Sergeant Marco Bruno discharged his weapon during the encounter, striking Allen. Emergency responders transported Allen to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was pronounced dead at 9:21 a.m.

 

As mandated by a 2019 New Jersey law, any fatal encounter involving police force must undergo investigation by the Attorney General’s Office and be presented to a grand jury for review of potential criminal charges.

 

The investigation remains ongoing, and no further details have been made public at this time.
