Alec Campbell, a 38-year-old park resource ranger from Delaware County, Pennsylvania, was found dead two days after he went missing in a boating accident on Neshaminy Creek in Bucks County.

 

The incident occurred just before noon on Friday, May 23, when Campbell’s boat overturned while he was working. Despite immediate search efforts involving multiple rescue teams, his body was not recovered until Sunday, May 25.

 

Tyler State Park was temporarily closed on Sunday and Monday as authorities carried out a large-scale search operation. The park reopened on Tuesday, May 27, once the search had concluded. Pennsylvania State Police led the investigation, assisted by various local emergency departments and dive teams.

 

Campbell’s identity was initially withheld but later confirmed after his remains were located. He was remembered as a passionate public servant, educator, and nature lover by colleagues and officials alike. Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn praised his commitment to preserving natural areas and connecting with visitors and youth groups.

 

Governor Josh Shapiro honored Campbell’s memory by ordering flags at Commonwealth facilities to be flown at half-staff. He also spoke directly with Campbell’s wife, Rena, expressing the state’s gratitude for Alec’s dedicated service.

 

Campbell leaves behind Rena and their two sons, Calder and Miles. A GoFundMe campaign was launched to support their future, raising more than $67,000 by the time of reporting.

 

Friends and colleagues described Campbell as kind, intelligent, and full of life, with a lasting impact on Pennsylvania’s parks and those who knew him.
