Fatal Broken Arrow murder-suicide death of Alyssa Diane Shippy – Obituary
Alyssa Diane Shippy, 20, was found dead alongside her younger brother and father in a tragic murder-suicide that occurred in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
Police discovered the bodies of Alyssa, her 10-year-old brother Logan Shippy, and their father, 58-year-old Rodney Shippy, on Wednesday while executing a search warrant during a missing persons investigation. Relatives had not been in contact with Alyssa since November and recently filed a report after growing increasingly concerned.
Investigators believe Rodney Shippy took his own life with a firearm. Due to the state of the residence, officers did not immediately locate Alyssa’s remains upon entry. The medical examiner will confirm the identities and causes of death.
Authorities have not disclosed further information about the case, nor have they formally identified the victims as of Thursday afternoon.
Family members have created a GoFundMe campaign seeking assistance with funeral expenses for Alyssa and Logan. In their appeal, they expressed profound grief and unpreparedness for the costs involved, thanking supporters for their prayers and donations.
This event adds to a series of heartbreaking events in the Shippy family. In August 2022, Rodney’s wife Lisa Maldonado Shippy died unexpectedly. Months later, Rodney’s sister Diane Carpenter was murdered by her husband, who later killed himself after a standoff with police.
Financial issues may have also weighed on Rodney, as court records show the family home was facing foreclosure after U.S. Bank filed for repayment of a $135,000 debt.
This latest incident follows several other tragic murder-suicides in Broken Arrow, part of a troubling rise in domestic violence fatalities statewide. Oklahoma’s Domestic Violence Fatality Review Board recently reported a record-high 122 domestic violence-related deaths in 2023.
