Fatal Phoenix hit-and-run death of Celeste Gomez – Obituary

Celeste Gomez, 32, was struck and killed in a hit-and-run while walking near 30th Avenue and Van Buren Street in Phoenix on the night of May 27.

According to Phoenix Police, the incident occurred around 10 p.m. as Gomez was trying to cross Van Buren Street outside of a designated crosswalk. A vehicle heading west struck her and continued driving without stopping, leaving the scene of the crash.

When officers arrived, they found Gomez unresponsive in the road. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe the vehicle involved is a light-colored truck. Photos of the suspected vehicle have been released to the public in hopes of identifying the driver.
