Fatal Cape Town hotel incident death of Chantal Pelser – Obituary
Chantal Pelser, aged 52, who had been reported missing from Bellville, was tragically found deceased in a guesthouse in Cape Town, bringing a sorrowful end to a days-long search.
Pelser had last been seen driving her silver Hyundai i10 through the Bo-Kaap area around 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, reportedly en route to Kloof Nek Road. Her sudden disappearance sparked widespread concern and a high-priority search effort, with friends, family, and volunteers scouring for leads both online and on the ground.
On Wednesday, May 28, her body was located inside a hotel room after police traced transactions made with her bank card to the guesthouse. Emergency crews had already secured the scene by the time her loved ones arrived.
Beau, the daughter of Pelser’s long-time partner Linlee Solms, confirmed the tragic outcome, noting that official identification would take place on Thursday.
Bellville police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Fienie Nimb stated that Pelser had checked in on Sunday and, at this time, her death is being treated as a suicide. Authorities emphasized there is no indication of foul play, though the investigation remains active.
Earlier in the week, concern over Pelser’s wellbeing escalated when her phone went silent and her vehicle did not register on Cape Town’s License Plate Recognition system. Her case had been flagged as especially urgent by the PinkLadies organization due to her vulnerable status.
As officials continue to gather details, the community mourns the loss of a woman whose disappearance deeply touched many.
