Christian Thomas Allen dies in fatal Salt Lake City shooting

Fatal Salt Lake City shooting death of Christian Thomas Allen – Obituary

Christian Thomas Allen, 60, was fatally shot by Salt Lake City police officers early Tuesday morning after he reportedly broke into his ex-wife’s residence in violation of a protective order.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight near Judith Street and Hudson Avenue, where the woman called 911 to report that Allen was unlawfully entering her home. She told authorities that Allen had made previous threats to kill her. While on the call with emergency dispatch, she and her two teenage children took refuge in a bedroom as Allen entered the house.

According to the police, the caller also mentioned a gasoline odor inside the home, though the source of the smell remains under investigation.

Responding officers entered the home and, during the ensuing confrontation, at least two officers opened fire. Allen was provided medical assistance by officers and paramedics, but he died at the scene. Authorities have not disclosed whether Allen had a weapon during the incident.

No injuries were reported among the ex-wife or the teens. Police Chief Brian Redd described the situation as highly dangerous and credited the 911 dispatcher for maintaining composure during the crisis.

An independent investigation is underway by the Unified Police Department under the officer-involved critical incident protocol. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave as part of standard procedure.

Salt Lake police initially misreported Allen’s age as 42 but later corrected it to 60.
