Oakland, California Man Eric Hernandez Garcia Arrested in Oakland for Fatal Hit-and-Run During CHP Pursuit

OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA — Eric Hernandez Garcia, an 18-year-old resident of Oakland, was arrested in connection with a deadly crash that occurred during a California Highway Patrol pursuit involving a stolen vehicle.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Garcia was taken into custody on Wednesday after he crashed a stolen Infiniti G35 into two pedestrians while fleeing law enforcement. The incident began around 7:45 p.m. near East 21st Street and Park Boulevard when officers identified the stolen vehicle. Although the pursuit was called off, Garcia continued driving recklessly and struck a Toyota Sienna before ultimately losing control near 12th Avenue.

Authorities say Garcia hit a man and a woman, both in their 40s, who were walking on the sidewalk. The male victim died at the scene, while the female victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Garcia was booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run and is currently facing charges related to the incident.
