Fatal Gaston car crash death of Ronnie Washington – Obituary
Ronnie Washington, 42, of Weldon, was found dead on Wednesday morning after authorities responded to a vehicle crash off Interstate 95 in the Gaston area. Washington had previously had a murder charge dropped in April.
According to First Sergeant Levern Bynum with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the crash site was located around 11:30 a.m. by two workers installing a billboard near mile marker 180. The vehicle, which had veered off the right side of the highway, hit a sign pole and continued through the wooded area before hitting a tree.
There were no earlier reports of the accident before the billboard workers contacted law enforcement. Bynum noted that the vehicle was so deeply hidden in the trees that it was not visible from the highway.
Investigators are still working to determine when the crash actually occurred and are continuing to examine other unknown circumstances surrounding the incident.
