Blake Sterling Rutledge dies in fatal Hesperia shooting

Fatal Hesperia shooting death of Blake Sterling Rutledge – Obituary

Blake Sterling Rutledge, a 27-year-old resident of Hesperia, was shot and killed on May 23, 2025, in a deadly incident at a home on Sequoia Street, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

 

Deputies responded to a report of gunfire around 6:15 a.m. and discovered Rutledge at the scene suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to assist him, he was pronounced dead. Witnesses reported seeing several individuals fleeing the area, but no one was immediately taken into custody.

 

Authorities arrested 37-year-old Ermes Ignacio Bustamante of Victorville around 1:15 a.m. on Friday, May 30, near Palmdale Road and Highway 395. Bustamante has been booked on suspicion of murder in connection with Rutledge’s death. Officials have not revealed whether the two men were acquainted or what may have led to the shooting.

 

Rutledge is remembered by his family, including his two sons, five siblings, and his parents. A fundraiser has been launched online to help cover funeral costs.

 

Bustamante’s bail was set at $1 million, and his arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday at the San Bernardino County Superior Court. Investigators are urging anyone with information to contact the Sheriff’s Homicide Detail or provide tips anonymously through the We-Tip hotline.
