Fatal Gilchrist shooting death of Eric Dopp and Wisdom Hall – Obituary
Eric Dopp, 45, of Houston, and his 24-year-old daughter, Wisdom Hall of Pearland, were identified as the victims of a deadly shooting in Gilchrist, Texas. Authorities revealed that the suspected gunman, 38-year-old Johnathan Findley from Pasadena, took his own life following a police pursuit that ended in Beaumont.
Investigators said the violence erupted during a gathering at the home of a mutual acquaintance of Findley. Though the exact cause of the argument is still unknown, it escalated into a tragic shooting on Bolivar Peninsula in Galveston County.
Shortly afterward, law enforcement in Chambers County spotted Findley driving a white Toyota Corolla and attempted a traffic stop. Findley refused to pull over, leading officers on a chase through several counties. Around 1 a.m., the vehicle veered off the road at the intersection of Interstate 10 and Laurel Avenue in Beaumont, crashing into a grassy median.
Beaumont Police Sgt. Tom Swope reported that officers were dispatched at 12:02 a.m. to assist in the ongoing pursuit. When the vehicle came to a stop, officers attempted to communicate with the driver but received no response. It was then confirmed that the driver was a suspect in the earlier double homicide.
Authorities used a drone to assess the interior of the car and observed that Findley was the only person inside and appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Officers later confirmed his death and secured the scene.
The investigation remains ongoing and is being handled by Galveston County officials, with support from law enforcement in Beaumont and Chambers County.
Additional updates will be shared as more verified details emerge.
