Eric Dopp dies in fatal Gilchrist shooting

Fatal Gilchrist shooting death of Eric Dopp – Obituary

Eric Dopp, a 45-year-old man from Houston, was one of two people killed in a deadly shooting incident in Gilchrist, Texas, over the weekend. Authorities identified his daughter, 24-year-old Wisdom Hall of Pearland, as the second victim. The man believed responsible for the killings, Johnathan Findley, 38, later died by suicide after a multi-county police chase.

The fatal shooting took place on the Bolivar Peninsula in Galveston County, where Dopp and others had gathered at the home of a mutual acquaintance of the suspect. Although the reason for the altercation remains unclear, investigators confirmed that all individuals involved knew one another.

Following the shooting, deputies in Chambers County located Findley driving a white Toyota Corolla. A high-speed chase ensued, involving officers from multiple jurisdictions. The pursuit came to an end shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday when Findley crashed his vehicle in Beaumont at the intersection of Interstate 10 and Laurel Avenue.

Beaumont police joined the chase as it entered the city. According to Sgt. Tom Swope, Findley’s car jumped a curb and came to rest in a grassy median. When officers tried to approach the vehicle, they received no response and soon confirmed the driver was a suspect in the Galveston County double homicide.

Using drone technology to look inside the vehicle, officers saw that Findley appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No other individuals were found inside the car.

Eric Dopp’s life was tragically cut short in an incident that continues to be under investigation by Galveston County authorities. Additional updates will be provided as the case develops.
