A tragic accident on Interstate 90 in Winona County on Friday afternoon claimed the life of 83-year-old Hadley Thompson, a resident of Pine Island. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Thompson was driving westbound when his vehicle veered across the median and into oncoming traffic in the eastbound lanes, near the Lewiston exit.
The head-on collision involved another car driven by 70-year-old Warren Hacker of Appleton, Wisconsin, who also lost his life at the scene. His passenger, 71-year-old Patricia Hacker, was rushed to Mayo Clinic Hospital – St. Marys with injuries described as life-threatening.
Authorities confirmed that everyone involved had been wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. The collision happened around 3:30 p.m., leading to major traffic disruptions near Exit 242. Investigators have not yet determined what caused Thompson’s vehicle to cross into the opposite lane. The Minnesota State Patrol continues to examine the incident.
