Fatal Thomasville crash death of James Edward Roberts – Obituary
James Edward Roberts, a 34-year-old man from Jacksonville, Florida, lost his life in a high-speed crash in Thomasville on May 29 after fleeing from a Georgia State Patrol officer. The incident began around 1:30 p.m. when a trooper observed Roberts driving a Lincoln MKS without a seatbelt on Remington Avenue near Broad Street. When the trooper attempted to pull him over, Roberts refused to stop and sped through city streets at an extremely high velocity.
Eventually, Roberts lost control of the vehicle, driving off the road and into a driveway culvert, where his car rolled multiple times. He was ejected completely from the vehicle during the crash. A passenger remained trapped inside. Both were taken to Archbold Hospital in Thomasville, where Roberts succumbed to his injuries.
Following the crash, the Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team found a small quantity of marijuana, THC products, and cocaine inside the vehicle. Authorities confirmed that the pursuing trooper never made contact with Roberts’ car during the chase.
