Fatal Opelousas shooting death of Justin Washington – Obituary

Authorities in Opelousas have arrested four individuals in connection with the shooting death of 17-year-old Justin Washington, which was initially believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot. Police later determined the fatal shot was fired by 18-year-old Jasean Mansfield after revisiting the case and re-interviewing witnesses.

Mansfield reportedly admitted to his role and is now facing charges of negligent homicide and obstruction of justice. In addition, three others—31-year-old Sharona Glaude, 19-year-old Latravien Glaude, and 18-year-old Koby Glaude—were taken into custody for allegedly attempting to clean up the crime scene before law enforcement arrived. Each has been charged with obstruction of justice.

The incident came to light when staff at Opelousas General Hospital notified police on Saturday, May 24, around 10:45 p.m., after Justin Washington was brought in by private vehicle. Investigators used video evidence to track down the vehicle and identify those involved.

Further investigation revealed that the shooting took place at a residence on Garland Avenue, near Lastrapes Street. Sadly, Washington succumbed to his injuries.

The Opelousas Police Department has expressed gratitude for the community’s cooperation and urged anyone with additional information to contact them or call Crime Stoppers.
