Fatal Cathedral City DUI crash death of Kevin Becerra – Obituary

Kevin Becerra, a 24-year-old resident of Cathedral City, lost his life early Sunday morning in a suspected DUI collision, according to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.

The accident occurred around 1:15 a.m. on May 25 near the junction of Ramon Road and San Eljay Avenue in Cathedral City, approximately 1,500 feet east of Ramon Road and Date Palm Drive.

When officers arrived, they discovered a Nissan sedan with severe damage to the passenger side and a Chevy pickup truck with significant front-end damage. Becerra, who was behind the wheel of the Nissan, was declared dead at the location.

Investigators concluded that the Chevy’s driver, a juvenile whose name has not been disclosed, was under the influence at the time of the crash. The minor was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

The crash resulted in the closure of a portion of Ramon Road for nearly five hours while authorities worked the scene. The road has since been reopened.
