Fatal Roanoke, Virginia car crash death of Mariangela Duenas – Obituary

Eighteen-year-old Mariangela Duenas of Roanoke has died following a deadly collision late Friday night in northwest Roanoke, according to police reports.

The crash occurred at approximately 11:39 p.m. at the intersection of Cove Road and Dansbury Drive NW. A red Jeep Wrangler, traveling south on Cove Road, veered across the center line into oncoming traffic, colliding with a northbound Chevrolet Cruze.

As the Cruze attempted to swerve out of the Jeep’s path, the Jeep shifted back into its lane, leading to a direct crash between the two vehicles. Duenas, seated in the rear right passenger seat of the Cruze, was transported to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Another passenger, 19-year-old Amarani Amaya Gomez, died at the scene. A 17-year-old male riding in the back left seat is in critical condition, and the 19-year-old male driver received minor injuries.

The Jeep’s driver, 48-year-old Reynaldo Diovanis Hinojosa Mayan of Roanoke, had minor injuries and showed signs of impairment. Police say his blood alcohol level tested at over twice the legal limit.

Mayan has been charged with two counts of DUI manslaughter and one count of DUI. Authorities are continuing to consult with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office regarding possible further charges.
