Fatal Dutchess County truck crash death of Mario Ernesto-Hernandez – Obituary

Mario Ernesto-Hernandez, 38, of Elizabeth, New Jersey, was killed in a tragic truck accident that occurred in the Town of Union Vale in Dutchess County, New York.

According to local authorities, the crash happened around 2:55 p.m. on Thursday as a 2007 Freightliner box truck descended a steep slope on Wingdale Mountain Road.

The truck, driven by 32-year-old Ronald Argenis-Rivera, also of Elizabeth, reportedly lost control due to suspected brake failure.

The vehicle veered off the southern side of the road and crashed into a wooded area, hitting several trees. Ernesto-Hernandez, who was riding in the front passenger seat, died at the scene from his injuries.

Argenis-Rivera sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital for treatment. The truck, loaded with furniture, was registered to Hernandez-Torres LLC of Elizabeth.

Following the accident, the section of Wingdale Mountain Road near Clove Valley Road was closed for roughly four hours as officials conducted their investigation.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, along with multiple supporting agencies, continues to examine the incident, with mechanical failure believed to be the leading cause.
