Polly Olson, also known as Polly Hodge-Olson, a 47-year-old nurse from Dexter, Michigan, was killed on Saturday, May 24, following a single-vehicle rollover accident off Interstate 94 near Jackson Road in Scio Township.
Michigan State Police responded to the scene after a crash alert from Ford Motor Co. When troopers arrived, they discovered a semi-truck and an SUV pulled over, both drivers reporting they had hit an unknown object. One motorist mentioned seeing headlights in the wooded area.
Authorities later located Olson’s 2021 Ford Expedition rolled over deep in the woods, having collided with a tree. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe the crash occurred when her vehicle veered off the westbound side of I-94. The debris other vehicles encountered was determined to be the wheel assembly from Olson’s SUV.
Olson was remembered in an obituary as a devoted labor and delivery nurse, a talented singer, and a loving mother of two. Described as deeply empathetic and authentic, she was known for offering emotional refuge and kindness to others.
She is survived by her children, parents, siblings, and extended family. Investigators are still working to determine the precise cause of the crash.
