Nineteen-year-old Riley Durst of Draper lost his life Tuesday afternoon in a devastating head-on collision on Interstate 15 in Payson, according to officials.

 

Authorities reported that an SUV traveling northbound suddenly crossed over all northbound lanes, breached the median cable barrier, and entered the southbound side of the freeway, where it crashed directly into a Jeep.

 

Riley Durst was driving one of the vehicles involved and was pronounced dead at the scene. He and the other driver, 50-year-old Christopher Suiter of Santaquin, were the only occupants in their respective vehicles, and both died upon impact.

 

Following the initial collision, two more vehicles hit debris from the crash, but those involved escaped with minor or no injuries.

 

Due to the crash, southbound lanes of I-15 were shut down for several hours, with traffic detoured at exit 253. The roadway was cleared and reopened around 10 p.m.
