Fatal Gilchrist shooting death of Wisdom Hall – Obituary
Wisdom Hall, a 24-year-old woman from Pearland, was one of the victims in a tragic shooting that occurred in Gilchrist, Texas. Her father, 45-year-old Eric Dopp of Houston, was also killed during the incident. Authorities have identified the suspect as 38-year-old Johnathan Findley of Pasadena, who later took his own life following a police chase.
The deadly shooting happened on the Bolivar Peninsula in Galveston County while Hall and others were visiting a mutual friend of the suspect. Though the specific cause of the conflict has not been confirmed, officials noted that everyone involved was familiar with one another.
After the shooting, Findley fled the scene in a white Toyota Corolla. Chambers County deputies located him and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but Findley led officers on a multi-county chase. The pursuit ended around 1 a.m. in Beaumont, where Findley crashed his car near Interstate 10 and Laurel Avenue.
Beaumont police were called in to assist. Sgt. Tom Swope reported that the suspect’s car ran off the road and came to a stop in a grassy median. Officers tried to communicate with Findley but received no response. He was later confirmed to be the person wanted in connection with the double homicide.
A drone was deployed to safely view the interior of the vehicle. It showed that Findley, the sole occupant, had died from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Officers secured the area and confirmed no other individuals were inside.
Wisdom Hall’s life ended in a senseless act of violence, leaving loved ones in mourning. The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the case. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
