Fatal Gastonia car crash death of Legend – Obituary
Seven-year-old Legend tragically lost his life after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross West Hudson Boulevard in Gastonia, North Carolina, on Tuesday evening, May 27, 2025.
The incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. as Legend and his sibling tried to cross the street outside of a designated crosswalk. He was hit by a 2016 Jeep Cherokee traveling in the eastbound lane. Emergency responders rushed him to a nearby hospital, and he was later transferred to Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, where he succumbed to his injuries around 10 p.m.
Legend’s great-grandmother, Sharon Stewart, expressed sorrow over never having met him, remembering him as a respectful and well-loved child who was known for his polite manners and sweet nature. She noted that her son often gave Legend haircuts and described him as always saying “yes, ma’am” and “yes, sir.”
The other child crossing with Legend was unharmed but witnessed the tragedy. The driver of the Jeep, a 76-year-old woman, has not been charged at this time.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash. Witnesses or anyone with information is urged to contact Gastonia Police at 704-866-6702.
