Alvin Parson dies in fatal Indian Trail shooting

Fatal Indian Trail shooting death of Alvin Parson – Obituary

Alvin Parson, 23, lost his life to a gunshot wound early Saturday morning in a deadly incident in Indian Trail, North Carolina, that police now link to a violent crime spree.

Deputies from the Union County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call around 6 a.m. and discovered Parson’s body inside a home on Astoria Drive. Authorities say he had been fatally shot. The homicide occurred just hours before a police-involved shooting that left the suspected gunman, 18-year-old Joshua Sikes, dead following a confrontation with Monroe police officers.

Investigators believe that Sikes shot and killed Parson prior to being stopped by police along Old Charlotte Highway around 1:44 a.m. During that attempted traffic stop, Sikes fled from officers and opened fire, injuring one Monroe officer. A manhunt ensued after Sikes abandoned his vehicle and ran into nearby woods. Police say he continued to fire at law enforcement and was subsequently shot and killed.

Evidence gathered from both crime scenes led detectives to conclude that Parson’s death was connected to the series of violent actions carried out by Sikes. Authorities say Sikes was fleeing the murder scene in the same car officers later tried to stop.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into Parson’s killing, while the North Carolina SBI is handling the review of the officer-involved shooting.

Sheriff Eddie Cathey called the events a “stark and sobering reminder” of the danger law enforcement faces and extended condolences to Parson’s family, describing his death as senseless and tragic.
