Joshua Sikes dies in fatal Indian Trail shooting

Fatal Indian Trail shooting death of Joshua Sikes – Obituary

Joshua Sikes, 18, was killed early Saturday morning in a deadly encounter with police following a violent crime spree in Indian Trail, North Carolina.

According to law enforcement, the incident began when Monroe police officers attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle along Old Charlotte Highway at around 1:44 a.m. Sikes, the driver, refused to comply and led officers on a short pursuit. During the chase, he reportedly opened fire and struck one officer, who was later hospitalized and is in stable condition.

Sikes fled the scene on foot, disappearing into a wooded area and triggering an extensive manhunt. Officers eventually located him still armed in the woods. Authorities say Sikes again fired at officers, prompting them to return fire and fatally shoot him.

Hours later, at approximately 6 a.m., Union County deputies responded to a separate call on Astoria Drive and found 23-year-old Alvin Parson dead from a gunshot wound. Investigators quickly connected Sikes to Parson’s murder, determining that Sikes likely killed Parson before his confrontation with police and was attempting to flee the area.

Officials believe Sikes left the scene of Parson’s homicide in the same vehicle involved in the police chase. The Union County Sheriff’s Office is now leading the investigation into the murder, while the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is handling the review of the police-involved shooting.

Sheriff Eddie Cathey condemned Sikes’ actions, describing the incident as a painful reminder of the risks officers face daily. He expressed sorrow for both the family of Alvin Parson and the wounded officer.
