Fitzsimons, the founder of the Nicole Fitzsimons Foundation—established in memory of her daughter who died in a 2012 motorbike crash in Thailand—was described by her family as the heart and soul of both their household and the organization. The announcement of her death was made by her daughter Kate through a heartfelt Instagram post on the foundation’s page.
“With heavy hearts we share the heartbreaking news that our beloved Mum, Julie Fitzsimons, passed away in an accident yesterday,” Kate wrote. “She was the foundation of our family, always brought joy, and was loved by everyone who knew her.”
Kate added that the family is devastated and is focusing on the process of repatriating Julie’s remains to Australia. She also mentioned that details regarding a memorial service would be shared when the family is ready.
The Nicole Fitzsimons Foundation, led by Julie and Kate, focuses on educating young Australians about travel safety and provides financial aid to those pursuing performing arts and sports.
