Fatal Gibson County shooting deaths of Alma Waite, Fernando Tapia Ramirez Sr., and Gloria Garcia Tapia – Obituary
Three members of a family were killed in a deadly shooting that took place last week in Gibson County, Indiana, near Haubstadt. Authorities have identified the victims as 61-year-old Alma Waite, her 39-year-old son Fernando Tapia Ramirez Sr., and her 81-year-old mother Gloria Garcia Tapia.
The incident occurred on May 29, when 77-year-old Patrick Waite called 911 to report that four people had been shot inside a home on Scottsdale Drive. According to an affidavit, Waite told dispatchers he would be waiting outside the residence with his hands raised and admitted he wanted to inform his children of what he had done.
Responding officers entered the home and found Alma Waite in the kitchen with multiple gunshot wounds to the head. A juvenile was present during the shooting but was not physically harmed. Waite reportedly told police that he and Alma had recently been discussing divorce and had argued over who owned the house before he shot her.
In the den of the home, officers found two more deceased victims: Fernando Tapia Ramirez Sr. and Gloria Garcia Tapia. Gloria was found lying on a medical bed. Authorities state that Fernando was Alma’s son and Gloria was her mother.
Also in the den, a fourth victim, 43-year-old Juan Tapia Ramirez Jr., was found with a gunshot wound but was still alive. He was rushed to a local hospital for surgery and is now reportedly recovering better than initially expected.
Patrick Waite was taken into custody at the scene without resistance. He is now facing multiple felony charges, including three counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and battery.
