DeAngelo Miles dies in fatal Chicago shooting

Fatal Chicago shooting death of DeAngelo Miles – Obituary

Seventeen-year-old DeAngelo Miles, a recent graduate of Hansberry College Prep, was tragically killed in a shooting on Chicago’s South Side just days after completing high school.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, Miles was the victim found with a gunshot wound to the head around 3:08 a.m. on Sunday in the 11900 block of South Wallace Street, in the West Pullman neighborhood. He was pronounced dead shortly after.

Hansberry College Prep principal Kashawndra Wilson shared heartfelt words about Miles, describing him as a talented student-athlete and a beloved member of the school community. He had served as captain of the football team and had aspirations to enlist in the U.S. Navy.

“This incredible young Black man had endless promise, and it was stolen far too soon,” said Wilson, visibly shaken. “We still can’t understand what happened.”

The school had recently posted a tribute to honor Miles’ graduation. Peers and staff are now grappling with the loss of someone they described as charismatic, kind, and full of life. He was known for making TikToks and conducting playful interviews with other students — traits that endeared him to many.

“He was meant to be in front of a camera,” Wilson added. “He had a golden heart and a smile that lit up every room.”

Chicago police have not released information about a motive or any suspects. The investigation remains ongoing.
