James Gallagher dies in fatal Hampton e-bike crash

James Gallagher, a 68-year-old man from Hampton, was killed early Sunday morning in a crash while riding an electric bicycle on Ocean Boulevard, according to local police.

 

The incident occurred around 1:31 a.m. on June 1, when officers were called to the scene near 507 Ocean Boulevard for a report of a bicycle crash. When they arrived, they found Gallagher lying on the ground with serious injuries. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and police confirmed no other vehicles were involved.

 

Investigators determined that Gallagher had been traveling northbound in the southbound shoulder when the crash took place. He was transported in critical condition by Hampton Fire & Rescue to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

 

Hampton Police Chief Alex Reno expressed condolences to Gallagher’s family, calling the incident a tragic loss.
