Fatal San Antonio shooting death of Jonathan Joss – Obituary

Jonathan Joss, the actor best known for his roles as Ken Hotate on Parks and Recreation and the voice of John Redcorn on King of the Hill, was fatally shot and died at age 59 in San Antonio, Texas. The shooting occurred on Sunday, June 1, following an altercation with a neighbor. Police responded to reports of an ongoing shooting and found Joss lying on the road where emergency personnel attempted to save his life.

 

Despite their efforts, Joss was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have taken the suspect into custody, charging them with murder, while the investigation into the circumstances of the shooting is still underway. According to reports, Joss suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

 

Joss lent his voice to John Redcorn on King of the Hill from its second through thirteenth seasons and had recently recorded new lines for the show’s upcoming Hulu revival set to premiere on August 4. He originally took over the character from Victor Aaron, who passed away in 1996.

 

Besides his voice work in more than 30 episodes of King of the Hill, Joss was also well-known for his portrayal of Chief Ken Hotate, the elder of the Wamapoke tribe, appearing in five episodes of Parks and Recreation between seasons three and seven.

 

His extensive acting career also included guest roles on shows such as Ray Donovan, Friday Night Lights, Tulsa King, ER, Charmed, Walker, Texas Ranger, In Plain Sight, and The League. Film credits include The Magnificent Seven and True Grit.

 

Born in 1965, Joss was a native of San Antonio and trained in theater and speech at Our Lady of the Lake University in Texas. In addition to acting, he was a musician who performed with The Red Corn Band, named after his King of the Hill character.
