Fatal Catawba County shooting death of Shawn Patrick Hood – Obituary

Shawn Patrick Hood, 58, of Lenoir, was killed during a mass shooting that erupted early Sunday morning at a house party in Hickory, North Carolina, according to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office. The incident, which left 11 others injured, occurred in the Mountain View neighborhood, roughly 60 miles north of Charlotte.

Emergency responders arrived just before 1 a.m. following reports of multiple people being shot. Authorities later confirmed that 12 individuals were struck by gunfire — Hood was pronounced dead at the scene, one person remains in critical condition, and ten others are being treated for serious injuries.

Investigators confirmed a party was taking place at the residence when gunfire broke out. The gathering included people of various ages, from teenagers to adults in their 20s and beyond. Deputies had initially visited the location around 11 p.m. on Saturday night to respond to a noise complaint.

More than 80 rounds were fired, and officials believe multiple shooters were involved. As of now, no suspects have been arrested. Both the Hickory Police Department and agents from the State Bureau of Investigation are actively working to determine a motive and identify those responsible.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as attendees ran for cover once shots rang out. Several guests were reportedly students from nearby high schools, though Catawba County Schools stated they could not confirm whether any of their students were among the victims.

Major Aaron Turk remarked that the street where the shooting occurred is typically quiet. Law enforcement is urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.
