Dillon Warren Breed, 32, was fatally shot by Winnipeg police on Friday evening and later died at the hospital, his family confirmed. The incident took place in the 200 block of Ferry Road, where officers responded after reports of a man acting suspiciously and possibly trying to break into homes.
According to police, officers encountered Breed around 6:16 p.m. behind a residence, where he was reportedly armed with a screwdriver and covered in blood. A confrontation followed, which resulted in the police shooting.
Winnipeg Police Chief Gene Bowers stated that the involved officers are currently off duty in accordance with the department’s critical incident protocol. Manitoba’s Independent Investigation Unit is conducting a thorough inquiry into the event and is asking anyone with relevant information or video evidence to come forward.
Breed’s family, mourning his loss, has described him as dearly loved and is making arrangements to travel to Winnipeg. The investigation remains ongoing with limited details released pending further review.
