Fatal Yuma child abuse death of Kano Aguerro – Obituary

The tragic death of 2-year-old Kano Aguerro in Yuma, Arizona, has led to the arrests of his mother, Angelina Vasquez, and her boyfriend, Miguel Garcia, who are both facing charges including first-degree premeditated murder and hiding a deceased body. The child’s remains were discovered on Friday during a welfare check at the residence shared by Vasquez and Garcia.

Kano’s father, Ethan Aguerro, expressed deep sorrow after learning of his son’s death. He revealed that he had been trying unsuccessfully for weeks to see his son, last visiting him in March. Communication with Vasquez had reportedly become sporadic, raising concerns.

On the day his son’s body was found, Ethan said Garcia had told him he could finally visit Kano, but he never followed through. That same afternoon, law enforcement officers came to Ethan’s home to report that his son was missing. Not long after, Kano’s body was discovered at the mother’s residence.

Ethan said he was stunned, never suspecting that Vasquez or her boyfriend would be capable of such a crime. He described Kano as a cheerful and loving child who brought joy to those around him. Ethan lamented that if caring for Kano had become too difficult, he wished Vasquez had reached out for help instead of letting things escalate.

Now, as the investigation unfolds, Ethan is raising funds to give his son a proper burial on the Quechan Reservation, in accordance with their family’s customs.
