Fatal Long Beach crash involving Metro train claims life of Naythan Hall – Obituary
Naythan Hall, 22, of Lakewood, who had been hospitalized following a collision involving a Metro train in Long Beach, has died from injuries sustained in the May 23 crash. Authorities confirmed his passing occurred on May 29.
The incident took place just before midnight near the intersection of 12th Street and Long Beach Boulevard. A 2014 Infiniti Q50S, driven by 21-year-old Katherine Rodriguez of Compton, was traveling southbound without headlights at a high rate of speed when a 2019 Honda Accord made a southbound turn from Anaheim Street onto Long Beach Boulevard. In an attempt to avoid a rear-end collision, the Accord’s driver veered away and crashed into a guardrail. Meanwhile, the Infiniti lost control and collided with a Metro train.
Rodriguez, the driver of the Infiniti, was transported to a hospital following the crash but succumbed to her injuries. Her death was confirmed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
Hall, who was a passenger in Rodriguez’s vehicle, remained hospitalized until his death six days later. The driver of the Honda Accord stayed at the scene and fully cooperated with law enforcement.
Police are investigating speed and possible impairment as contributing factors in the crash. No passengers aboard the Metro train were reported injured.
