Fatal Pickering stabbing death of Eleanor Doney – Obituary
Eleanor Doney, an 83-year-old retired kindergarten teacher, was the victim in a fatal stabbing that occurred last Thursday in Pickering, Ontario.
Her body was found with multiple stab wounds outside a residence near Lynn Heights Drive and Fairport Road, according to Durham Regional Police. Authorities had initially withheld her identity at the family’s request but publicly confirmed her name on Tuesday, June 3.
A 14-year-old boy has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the incident. Investigators confirmed there was no known relationship between Doney and the accused. Due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, identifying details or images of the teen suspect cannot be shared publicly.
In a statement released through police, Doney’s family thanked the public for their support and acknowledged the efforts of first responders. They described her as a woman of deep Christian faith.
Pastor Kevin Armstrong, who had known Doney for over 30 years through his church in Ajax, recalled her as warm-hearted, humorous, and deeply generous.
Durham police continue to seek any information from the public, emphasizing that even seemingly minor details may be helpful to the investigation. They also urged social media users to refrain from sharing any content that might identify the youth suspect and instead focus on honoring Eleanor’s memory.
