Fatal Burke County shooting death of Gregory Adonis Rutherford – Obituary

Gregory Adonis Rutherford, 34, lost his life in a shooting that occurred Saturday evening in Burke County. The incident took place around 5:45 p.m. on Kathy Road near the entrance to Belle Farm in Morganton. Rutherford was transported to U.N.C. Health Blue Ridge, where he was later declared dead.

Two other individuals were also hurt during the incident. Jerry Jerome Benjamin, 53, sustained injuries and was reported to be in stable condition. Jonathan Michael Benjamin, age 24, suffered wounds that were not life-threatening and chose not to seek medical care.

Law enforcement agencies, including the Burke County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
