Manuel Edwards, a 55-year-old off-duty sergeant with the Harris County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office, died after being struck by a U-Haul truck while cycling in Katy, Texas, on Tuesday morning. The collision occurred around 8:12 a.m. on Gaston Road near Katy Flewellen.

Authorities report that Edwards was heading north on Gaston Road when a U-Haul truck driven by 63-year-old Earlie Gibbs hit him. Edwards was airlifted to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Investigators later charged Gibbs with failure to stop and render aid and intoxication manslaughter.
