Fatal Connemara house fire death of Sunny Jacobs – Obituary
Sonia “Sunny” Jacobs, a 76-year-old American who was once wrongfully sentenced to death in the United States, tragically lost her life in a house fire early Tuesday morning in Connemara, County Galway. Emergency responders discovered her body, along with that of a man believed to be her carer, in the remains of a burned bungalow in the Gleann Mhic Muireann area near Casla.
Galway Fire and Rescue Service received the call at 6:19 a.m., and crews from Galway City and An Cheathrú Rua were dispatched to the location. According to Chief Fire Officer Gerry O’Malley, the first responders reached the home just over 20 minutes after the alert was issued.
The scene has been sealed off to allow for a full technical investigation, while both bodies were taken to University Hospital Galway for autopsy. The local Coroner has been notified, and gardaí are urging anyone with information about the fire to come forward.
