Fatal Sylmar car crash death of Amanda Castillo – Obituary
Amanda Castillo, aged 35, has been identified as one of the two individuals who lost their lives in a fiery accident on the Golden State (5) Freeway in Sylmar. The crash occurred late on the night of May 29, just south of Roxford Street, and was reported at 10:41 p.m.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Castillo was a passenger in a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee that collided with the rear end of a trailer attached to a semi-truck. Upon impact, the Jeep ignited in flames, and its airbags were deployed.
Firefighters arrived and extinguished the blaze, but both Castillo and another occupant of the Jeep were pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim has not yet been identified by authorities.
The semi-truck involved sustained major damage, though the driver was unharmed. The incident prompted the closure of three lanes on the northbound 5 Freeway for several hours as the CHP conducted its investigation.
CHP Captain E. A. Krusey expressed condolences in a statement, acknowledging the tragic nature of the crash and emphasizing the agency’s commitment to uncovering the details behind the collision.
