Daniel Marcelo and Alex Vasquez die in fatal Haverhill crash

Fatal Haverhill car crash death of Daniel Marcelo and Alex Vasquez – Obituary

Two men lost their lives in a crash that occurred early Monday morning off Interstate 495 in Haverhill, Massachusetts. The victims have been identified as 39-year-old Daniel Marcelo of Lowell and 27-year-old Alex Vasquez of Lawrence.

The Essex County District Attorney’s Office confirmed their identities Wednesday. According to Massachusetts State Police, the crash was initially not obvious. Troopers from the Newbury Barracks were alerted around 3:45 a.m. to a report of someone walking in the median near Exit 107 on I-495 South.

A surviving individual, whose name has not been released, was located nearby in a parking lot and transported to a hospital. That person informed authorities that they had been in a vehicle with two others when the crash occurred.

After further investigation, police discovered the wreckage deep within the wooded embankment off the southbound lanes of I-495. The crash site had not been visible from the road.

The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by the Essex County District Attorney’s Office, along with multiple units from the Massachusetts State Police, including Troop A Detectives, Crime Scene Services, Collision Analysis and Reconstruction, and the Drone Unit.
