Fatal Frederick County car crash death of Thomas McGinley – Obituary

Thomas McGinley, a 20-year-old resident of Frederick, was identified as one of the two individuals killed in a fiery three-vehicle accident on Interstate 70 near New Market on May 25.

Maryland State Police reported that McGinley was a passenger in a westbound box truck at around 4:10 p.m. when it was struck from behind by a BMW SUV. The force of the crash pushed the box truck into the eastbound lanes, where it collided with an oncoming tractor-trailer.

The collision caused both the box truck and the tractor-trailer to veer into a wooded area, where they caught fire. McGinley and the box truck’s driver were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities initially had difficulty confirming their identities, but McGinley was later identified. The name of the driver is still awaiting official confirmation by the medical examiner.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
