Gorlyn Wohlk dies in fatal Ward County crash

Fatal Ward County crash death of Gorlyn Wohlk – Obituary

Gorlyn Wohlk, an 80-year-old resident of Douglas, North Dakota, died in a tragic accident on Thursday, June 5, in Ward County. According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. as Wohlk was operating a 2022 John Deere side-by-side utility vehicle westbound on 359th Avenue Southwest.

At the time of the crash, a 2014 Kenworth cement truck, driven by 68-year-old Richard Spaulding of Minot, was attempting to pass Wohlk’s UTV. As Wohlk began turning left onto 156th Street Southwest, the truck collided with the UTV. The impact forced the utility vehicle into the north ditch and caused the cement truck to overturn onto its side, sliding across the road and blocking both lanes.

Wohlk, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene. Spaulding, who had his seat belt on, sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital in Minot. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
