Fatal Dorchester County hit-and-run death of Kelly Farmer – Obituary
Authorities with the South Carolina Highway Patrol have confirmed an arrest in the deadly hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of Kelly Farmer, a 46-year-old employee with the City of Goose Creek.
The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Terrell Darrel Crawford from North Charleston, faces a charge of hit-and-run involving a death.
Farmer was struck by a vehicle while walking near Tabby Lane along Dorchester Road just before 7 a.m., according to Coroner Paul Brouthers. The incident happened about one mile west of Summerville, close to Middleton Boulevard. Investigators believe Crawford was driving eastbound when the collision occurred.
Family members of Farmer described him as a compassionate and gentle individual. His sister, Kathryn Farmer, expressed disbelief that someone would intentionally harm him, recalling how deeply caring he was—even toward small creatures.
City of Goose Creek officials mourned the loss of Farmer, who had worked in the Department of Public Works for two years. Initially part of the Maintenance Division, he later joined the Water Division and served as a Distribution Operator. His dedication, strong work ethic, and leadership were recognized and praised by colleagues and department leaders.
“He embraced challenges and sought out opportunities to learn,” said Chuck Denson, Director of Public Works. “Kelly stood out for his eagerness to grow and contribute. His absence will be deeply felt.”
Outside of work, Farmer was known for his musical talent as a bassist in the local band Bullets Benign. He also had a passion for nature and frequently spent time camping, biking, hiking, or jogging.
Crawford is currently being held at the Dorchester County Detention Center, awaiting a bond hearing.
