Fatal Mukono stabbing death of Elvis Katabazi – Obituary
Elvis Katabazi, 26, has been arrested in connection with the deadly stabbing of money lender Hamida Mutesi Nalule in Namuyenje Village, Nakisunga Sub-county. The attack reportedly arose from a financial dispute involving a loan of Shs 18 million.
Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango stated that earlier in the day, Katabazi and Mutesi traveled together in Mutesi’s white Toyota Fielder to meet a local chairman to resolve their disagreement over the loan. However, the meeting did not happen because the chairman was unavailable. On their return trip, Katabazi allegedly stabbed Mutesi in the throat, causing her death.
Monica Abaho, a colleague of Mutesi, explained that Mutesi had loaned Katabazi Shs 18 million using a piece of land as collateral, and they had a formal loan agreement. The two had gone to inspect the mortgaged land when the incident occurred.
Locals witnessed the two driving together that day, with one resident, Godfrey Kato, expressing shock over the murder. Following the stabbing, Katabazi reportedly exited the vehicle claiming they had been ambushed, but suspicious bystanders detained him until police arrived. Authorities recovered the suspected murder weapon at the scene.
Katabazi is currently held at Mukono Central Police Station as investigations continue. Mutesi’s body was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination. The community remains shaken and is calling for justice for the slain money lender.
