Fatal New Madrid County Mississippi River death of Robert J. Eaton – Obituary

Robert J. Eaton, 26, from Indiana, was identified as the man whose remains were found in the Mississippi River near Portageville, Missouri, three years after he was reported missing.

Eaton was last seen on February 20, 2022, when he arrived at Caesar’s Southern Indiana Casino in Elizabeth, Indiana, after being dropped off by an Uber. He never took the scheduled ride home afterward, according to his family.

On June 2, 2022, authorities received a report of a body spotted in the river, leading to the recovery of Eaton’s remains. An autopsy conducted by the medical examiner found no signs of trauma, and it is believed Eaton had died approximately two months before being found.

The investigation into the cause of his death and the details surrounding his disappearance remains active.
