Rodrigo Reyna-Sanchez, a 58-year-old former Eureka police sergeant, tragically lost his life on May 31, 2025, in an industrial accident caused by a landslide along Highway 36 in Carlotta.
At approximately 5:53 a.m., deputies from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene where a large amount of debris from an active landslide had fallen, leading to the fatal incident. Sanchez, who was working for a local contractor at the time, was struck by the falling material. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Division confirmed his identity after notifying his next of kin.
The Sheriff’s Office has expressed heartfelt condolences to Sanchez’s family and friends during this difficult period. The community mourns the loss of a dedicated public servant and respected member of the local workforce.
