Fatal Birmingham shooting death of Anthony DeAngelo Avila – Obituary

Anthony DeAngelo Avila was shot and killed early Saturday morning in Birmingham’s Fountain Heights neighborhood, following a dispute that reportedly began near a local church.

 

Police were called to 2nd Avenue North shortly before 6:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a person lying unresponsive. Upon arrival, they discovered Avila suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene but declared him dead shortly after.

 

Investigators say the altercation that led to the fatal shooting appears to have started near the church and escalated until it ended beneath a nearby interstate overpass. A man has been taken in for questioning by homicide detectives at Birmingham Police headquarters.

 

Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the BPD Homicide Unit or reach out to Crime Stoppers anonymously. The investigation remains ongoing.
